Can a 4WE6 be replaced by a cartridge valve?
Only by reworking the hydraulic circuit and mounting plate. These are different design families — a direct part-for-part swap is not possible.

Is a filter needed upstream of the valve?
Yes. Oil contamination is the main cause of spool jamming and loss of tightness. We recommend filtration no coarser than 10 µm for proportional equipment.
